With Easter upon us, we’re reminded of the experience of the followers of Jesus when they buried His body.
In truth, it could’ve felt like they were forced to bury their only hope . . .
Shocked. Overwhelmed. Broken. Afraid.
Doesn’t that describe the world we live in right now? As we write, the world is groaning with the pain of violence and terrorism. In Ukraine, Israel, and in so many other areas worldwide. And many of us groan within as well — with concerns and disappointments in our own hearts.
That’s what we lay down on Good Friday. Linger on that a moment . . .
It’s too easy to move quickly from Good Friday to Resurrection Sunday — the glimpse and taste of the new life to come when eternity swallows the world whole.
But, in truth, we live most of our lives in the in-between. In the tension between the heartbreak we feel, and the hope we know that’s to come.
These precious, and sometimes painful, moments in the in-between aren’t the end.
Yet they prepare us for a day when suffering will cease. When all the struggles we experience — and evil we see in the world — will make sense. On that glory-filled day when the full reality and revelation of Easter will be unleashed, and we’ll join our Savior in the skies.
What we celebrate together on Easter Sunday is but a glimpse. But it’s a beautiful glimpse. A powerful glimpse.
So be encouraged. Cling to the hope that can only come from Jesus, the Messiah. And don’t give up.
All the understanding, explanations, and answers we long for will eventually come. Riding on the hem of our King’s robes when He returns and makes everything eternally new.
