“Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled.”
These are the words that Jesus left with his disciples the night before his crucifixion. That’s right. He was preparing for his death, actually his murder. Yet he was comforting the men around him with these words, “Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled.”
But the disciples were worried by this news. They had just spent the past three years with Jesus and observed his life as a teacher, healer, counselor, rabbi, and son of God! Their lives had been changed forever! Now he’s telling him he’s going away, and they cannot come. What are they to do? How do they not feel troubled by this news?
We are reminded of the events that led up to Jesus’s crucifixion during Easter season. The word of God teaches us that Jesus died on the cross to save us from our sins and to bring us into relationship with God the Father. The invitation is for you and for me. We just simply must believe that Jesus is the Son of God and make Him Lord of our lives.
We celebrate His resurrection from death on Easter morning with joy. Yes! Because he lives, we too can live, with hope, peace, and expectancy, yes, even when our hearts are troubled as we find ourselves in the midst of turbulent times.
So, when Jesus told his disciples “Let not your heart be troubled.” he explained to them that he was not abandoning them. He was not going to leave them destitute. No, he says, “I will come to you.”
But how?
He would send the Spirit of Truth, His Holy Spirit to be with them, and to be with us, forever.
The Holy Spirit of God, dwelling within us, who he says will teach us and remind us of what is true. The Holy Spirit will equip us with strength and power, to live life in victory. The Holy Spirit will offer us discernment and wisdom as we navigate through challenging times ahead.
We don’t have to live in fear or defeat. We can, live with confidence in our faith through Jesus and we can triumph! This gift of His spirit is ours for the choosing.
If you don’t know Jesus, consider for yourself the true meaning of Easter. And take comfort in these words of Jesus, as he bid farewell to his disciples that night:
Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. In the world you will have tribulation. But be of good cheer. I have overcome the world.
May the peace of God and His unequivocal love for you flow in your heart this Easter and may you will take comfort in His Holy Spirit who is available for you.
Happy Easter!
