I resist masks. And I resist the mandate to wear them.

When it is absolutely necessary to patronize a shop or store, I find myself feeling grouchy afterwards.

The bandanna I reluctantly cover my face with is hot and stuffy. I feel criminally conspicuous as I am consciously self-aware of my heart which is in much opposition with government regulation on my personal choice for health and freedom. I am saddened and dismayed to see the public at large adorned with facial coverings that are disfiguring. Exchanges and dialogues between passersby are muffled and inarticulate. Connections with others are few and far between.

Hence, I am ever so grateful for online shopping, delivery, and curbside pickup. It gives me the space and allowance to practice soul-care in the midst of uncertain times and prepare myself for the days ahead.

Indeed, these are significant times, and there are many political and spiritual implications. Oh Lord, remove the scales of blindness from our eyes; increase our understanding. Give us wisdom, discernment, and discretion.

Nevertheless, we’re not making this thing up! Our lives are impacted socially, economically, vocationally, mentally, and spiritually. And yet, our life goes on and we must adjust, navigate, and find our way. We need to find our footing, and in the end, identify our stand.

Meanwhile, we have issues we are working through. Our relationships are challenged, our stress levels are maddening, and our fears and anxiety are at an all time high. Depression sinks us deeper into despair. Suicidal thoughts sneak in.

That is why mental health has been deemed “essential” and indeed it is! When you come in for counseling in my office you can take refuge from the craziness outside and find a safe place to be yourself. Get your head clear and share your thoughts; unload your burdens. Find acceptance, compassion, and understanding. Gain support; learn some tools; and be encouraged.

And when you do come, please remember, no masks required here!
